Eleanor Dare- Non-human Photography

In the non-human photography workshop on November 7, Eleanor Dare introduced us to the concept of non-human photography. In short, non-human photography is photos taken by non-human beings. Such as closed-circuit television, body scanners, space satellites, etc. In the process of searching for non-human photography, I felt the creativity of non-human photography. We have always been accustomed to understanding the world from one person's perspective. Observing the world from a non-human perspective gives me a whole new experience. Later in the group activity, Eleanor asked us to shoot a short film from an insect perspective. We tried to use a compound eye lens to record its short life from the perspective of a fly. From the perspective of a fly, everything is magnified and the world I know is reshaped. During teamwork, my members shared a lot of their ideas. This makes our work progress quickly. I learned a lot of new knowledge during communication.
Eleanor also taught us about the use of Blender. This was my first time using Blender, but I quickly built a small scene in 10 minutes. And he also shows different effects under red and blue glasses. This surprised me and inspired me at the same time. Our eyes see different scenes under different lights.

On November 23, we were organized to visit UVA: Synchronicity at 108 Studio. It contains 8 large-scale immersive experiential works. Artists create through sound, light, space and code, and see a lot of incomprehensible astronomical knowledge and natural phenomena unfold before our eyes. This made me realize that art can help us re-understand the world in another way.
The immersive experience undoubtedly captivates every viewer. The combination of sound, light, shadow and space can instantly bring me into the atmosphere of the work. Artworks are not just placed on exhibition stands. Immersive experience eliminates the "distance" between art and people, which is a good way to convey the author's ideas. This is what I have always ignored. The interaction between art and people lies not only in the body but also in the experience of the five senses.

UAL-Open Studio

In preparation for the open studio, we conducted internal presentations and discussions as a class. My classmates and teachers have given me a lot of useful advice. For example, the background is difficult to understand, and not everyone understands Plato's theory of ideals and how the world of ideals interacts. One of my classmates inspired me while accidentally playing in front of the projector. My interaction method can be adjusted to the interaction of light and shadow. Due to the limitations of the exhibition space I was unable to achieve the effect of an immersive experience. The teacher's advice inspired me. I moved the work piece under the table. While achieving the immersive experience effect, it also creates the effect of entering another space. During the exhibition, the audience also gave me a lot of suggestions and unexpected ideas. Gave me a lot of inspiration.
I communicated with many classmates when I visited the exhibition. I exchanged ideas and resonated with many classmates. I learned a lot about unknown areas and artistic expression methods that I didn’t understand. This will be of great help to me in my future work.
